Overview

We were contacted by the team at My Home TV to design and the Interface of their mobile and TV App. MyHome TV is a freeview television app providing content aimed primarily at Asian family audiences specifically catering to Bengali, Sunna, Indian, African and Pakistani demographics. Followning consultation with the stakeholder it was agreed a high fidelity mock up of the flows would be required for the developer team to launch the app. Starting with lo-fi and eventually finishing with a protoype i was briefed to create a branded user experience for both FTU (First Time Users) and RU (Returning Users).

This was both a UX and UI centric job that would be focussed on developing the mobile app from a developer created Wireframe that laid out the steps required. The owner of the company expressed interest in seeing an onboarding experience that addresses the technical challenge of OTP (One Time Password) for the user (which was a company requirement at that stage). We wanted to create an onbaording experience that felt secure and familiar allowing guest access and a more tailored experience to returning and logged in users.

The Challenge
The ground-up creation of the interface was the primary focus of the task, particularly the inclusion of a OTP function that would allow a user to quickly enter their info and log into the service via an emailed private key (Removing the need for MyHomeTV to retain user account details). The Stakehlder was also interested in optimisating the first time user flow as well as the inclusion of a terms and conditions section to comply with industry regulations.

The Process
I wanted to start by conducting talks with the dev team about the Wireframe that was provided and to use the notes from these sessions as a starting point for concieving the overall design of the app. I also felt it would be necesary to wireframe the various user journeys (First Time, User OTP Reg, Social Reg) to help me understand the complete user journeys, Low-Fidelity and then Hi-Fidelity Prototypes and then a presentation to the Stakeholder.

User Journey Flow

Points of action:
After conducting the Dev Team discussions i was able to note:

  • Users need to accept terms of use before access is granted.
  • Location access should be requested.
  • Streamlined access for FTU to the content preferred.
  • Allow a selection on languages.
  • Create a OTP system for logging in (no social logins).
  • Pricing Plans page.
  • Screens presented in both IOS and Android.

Problem & Hypotheses

THE PROBLEM:
After conducting a UX audit, we noted:

  • Lack of retention
  • Low contact numbers
  • Lack of depth of detail on website
  • Confused by calls to action
  • Confused by purpose of the website
  • Feel pressurised to contact the Linger team too soon

THE SOLUTION:
We believe that by improving the current site’s journey flow, delving deeper into the destinations and expertise offered by this bespoke luxury travel company, we can build confidence in the brand, keep visitors engaged for longer and entice them to contact the company directly.

High Fidelity Mock up #1

From the kick off session held i was able to create a high fidelity mock up of the User Journey. Included in the original mockup was a privacy notice, terms of service screen, home screen and login/registration journeys. As requested i created a OTP process whereby the user would have to input a code sent to their email address in order to log in. I was informed later that the user would not be able to log in via social accounts and so this function would need to be removed.

Mock Up Iteration #2

Taking into account feedback from the stakeholder I was able to make various improvements to the presentation and flow of the app. This included functional improvements to the OTP login process as well as UI improvements.

Improvements:
● Simplified the user journey.
● Login interceptor when user tries to use premium functions.
● OTP only login process.
● Improved brand guideline compliance.

App Launch

Following on from the design phase, i presented to the client and their developer team a working prototype showing a complete journey where the user enters the app intitially as a guest and logs in using OTP upon attempting to access premium features. The design was well recieved by both the stakeholder and their development team who were able to impliment the designs succesfully. This app is now live on both IOS and Google Play stores.
